The caravel Matthew off Dun Laoghaire, Ireland.

The Matthew is a replica of the ship John Cabot sailed from Bristol to discover Newfoundland in 1497. I say discover but presumably the locals already knew it was there.

New-found land. Honestly. Great picture by the way, I love these old discovery replicas. Shame they don't come around where I live.

I would walk five hundred miles and I would walk five hundred more to be the man who walked a thousand miles to fall down at your door.
A beautiful ship. Thanks for sharing this piece of history with us. Great shot.
Lovely, lovely. I love the shape of her. The framing of the image is quite nice as well.
It looks more like a carrack rather than a caravel... These ships always confused me. Lovely shot, but the grain does bother.

I'm not racist, I've got color television!

What a cool-looking ship! I think the grain adds to the feel of the shot.

I like the mood of the shot; evocative of an old, morbid b+w film.

Having followed up on definitions I suspect you're right. However the Matthew people themselves refer to her as a caravel, so... I don't know.

The grain came from using ISO400 colour print film, but even if I'd shot it on digital I'd have added noise. For me high contrast B&W should be grainy.

So this dyslexic walks into a bra...
No expense was spared coming up with a good name was it?

I don't see many ships like this anymore either. I miss them a lot too. Thanks for the fave.
